This is the second consecutive year that he has won this honor from Legal Elite. Last year being for his practice in personal injury law, Mr. Whalen continued to broaden his specialties and was nominated this year for his accomplishments in the criminal law field.

Local attorneys vote for their legal colleagues and peers in 20 business-related categories. Legal Elite stands out as the only regional award that allows active attorneys to pick selections. Lawyers may nominate candidates from their own firm, but they are not allowed to vote for themselves. For balance, there must be one out-of-firm nomination for each in-firm one. Online attorney votes are the only criteria for list selection. Legal Elite is the only award program in the region that gives every active attorney the opportunity to participate.
Greenville Business Magazine, Columbia Business Monthly and Charleston Business Magazine have honored attorneys from around the state by publishing our Legal Elite section. This year, we highlight the top vote-getters in 26 categories — all voted on by area attorneys — and provide a brief list of other attorneys recognized by their peers.
